Joy of Giving Week (Oct 2-8, 2013)

The Joy of Giving Week (JGW) is India’s “festival of giving”! Launched in the week of Sept 27-Oct 3, 2009, the festival is celebrated every year, in the week that includes October 2, the birth date of Mahatma Gandhi. JGW brings together Indians from all walks of life, to celebrate “giving”.

From auto drivers to CEOs, school children to celebrities, homemakers to opinion leaders, millions of people give their time, money, resources or skills back to society- by creating or participating in “events” of their choice. A giving event could be as simple as a family taking out the maid’s children for an ice-cream party, or as large as the Design For Change Contest that had 200,000+ school children across India participating and volunteering to make a difference.
Individuals, social groups, schools, colleges, NGOs, corporates, media houses, and others organize events. Events are not just on-the-ground activities. Many of the events have online participation, while some are primarily online making it possible for people across the globe to join the festival in India and experience the joy of giving.

2 million+ people participated in 900+ events across 70+ cities and towns in JGW2012, raising over US $5.5 million in money and resources donated, and millions of volunteer hours.

It is time to plan how you could celebrate India’s festival of Giving. Visit: www.joyofgivingweek.org
