Children of Jasara can't wait to move into their new school building!

"We wanted to build a school along with our corporate patron, in a rural part of North Gujarat. After months of trying to find a project through references, we approached GuideStar India who put it on their blog and sent emails to various shortlisted NGOs on theirdatabase. The response was overwhelming. We finally selected AdwaitVidhyamandir, Jasara (North Gujarat)," said Tr. Vineet Parikh, National Secretary/ Treasurer, Round Table India (Ahmedabad RT40)

Students belonging to backward communities were attending classes run in a shed. Lack of basic infrastructure was a reason for low enrollments and adolescent girls dropping out of school.

The support for school infrastructure worth US $100,000 from RoundTable and its corporate patron, has made it possible for the trust to construct a school, with all amenities, on the land available with the trust. The local community turned up in large numbers for the foundation stone laying function and is contributing US $25,000 for the school. The building construction is under progress. Children are waiting eagerly to move into their dream school around Diwali,” says Mahesh K Dave, President, AdwaitSarvajanik Trust

Happiness arrives in 4 cartons!

More than 160 NGOs from across India made it easy for Surf Excel India’s 600,000+ Facebook community to reach out to needy children. As their children get ready to return to school for the new academic year, they are making it special for other children too! They join Surf Excel India's Back to School Campaign page, make a gift box with their child's used books, stationery, toys and clothes. They connect with the nearest NGO from the list of 160 NGOs who signed up with GuideStar India for the campaign. Some of them run a collection drive among their child’s friends in the neighborhood. Some schools also joined the campaign!

Within days of the campaign going live, Oxford School, located on the outskirts of Delhi posted on the campaign page, a desire to share their collection of specimen books and clothes with an NGO close to their location. GuideStar India put the Surf Excel team in touch with Child Survival India. Within hours the NGO and the school were connected. Very quick to respond, the NGO visited the school, met with the teachers and picked up 4 big cartons of books, notebooks and other reading material for out of school children coming to its learning centres.

Deepa Bajaj, Chief Executive of Child Survival India, wrote this to Surf Excel and GuideStar India, “Congrats to you and your team for this excellent effort!! Thanks a lot for putting CSI in touch with the Oxford School at Faridabad. This kind of effort to link up schools with NGOs would be really helpful and a lot can be achieved through this, not only in terms of collection of material donations for NGOs but also in terms of sensitising our kids right from beginning and inculcating the habit of sharing & caring amongst them.

The centres are no longer being supported by any grant making agency since last 2 years and we depend on small donations from individuals/ organisations for meeting our costs and have not been able to do any staff increments/ equipment maintenance etc. due to lack of funds.” She also gave suggestions to strengthen the campaign.
